Giving Thanks

by Paul on November 27, 2008

I have so much to be grateful for, not just on this Thanksgiving Day, but every day.  I don’t count my blessings nearly as much as I could and should but, when I do, I am often overwhelmed with thankfulness.

This past year I had a little cancer scare that turned out to be nothing too much to worry about, I have a job that totally engages me, colleagues who are both competent & compassionate, a Jesuit community that seems not only to tolerate my various foibles & eccentricities but to find them – for the most part! – somewhat endearing, family members who although they are far away are gentle & supportive, and friends…  What did I ever do to deserve the dear good friends who make me laugh, help me cry, sop up my anger with ironic commentary and challenge me to go beyond my own petty concerns?  They are pure gold.

This year I am thankful for many, many things but, most of all, today I am grateful for God’s boundless mercy and love.  Alleluia.

Dear Paul.

I love this post and can relate to it completely.

I was down in my local supermarket some time ago, doing what you are supposed to do in such a place, when I very suddenly got an overwhelming feeling of tremendous joy and happiness. It just happened out of the blue and immediately took away the migraine, that had been on for 3 days and had made work days almost impossible to get through.
I felt so upliftet and just wanted to get home, so that I could sit still and take it all in and fully enjoy the wonderful feeling. Even though I have been really busy with work and too many other demands on my time since that day, I still carry this feeling in my heart and draw strength from it if things get too tough. It was proof to me that I am not alone, that God takes care of me when He can see I need a helping hand.

Thank you for reminding us about what is important and for sharing your joy with us.

Toolah.
