Our New Baby Girl

by Paul on December 12, 2008

Margie from Customer Service walked into my office yesterday afternoon to announce that, “We have a new baby girl.”  The baby’s parents might quibble about this broad definition of ”we,” but all of us at the Press are thrilled at the birth of our own Miguel’s first child. Mind you, as I told him in a congratulatory email, it is Alma who had all the hard work to do.

Look at her.  Isn’t she gorgeous?

Miguel and Alma chose a name for their baby daughter months ago – Betsaida (Bethsaida). How many children do you know who have been named for towns of the New Testament?  You’ll remember that Philip, Andrew and Peter lived there as perhaps did James and John.

Betsaida is destined to spend the rest of her life spelling out her name. I know this problem… my Irish accent means that several people think my first name is “Pole” and you wouldn’t believe how many people either leave out the ”p” or the “b” out of ”Campbell” or else switch them around.

I am digressing, and not for the first (or last) time.  Today we’re here to thank God for Betsaida’s safe and joyous arrival among us and to wish Miguel and Alma every joy.
