If the sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church has taught me one thing (in truth, it has taught me many things), it is that none of our actions is ever private or personal – each and eveything we do has an effect, for weal or for woe, on those around us.
We are either building up the Reign of God or we are tearing it down. Everything has a consequence and our behaviors send out ripples that can affect people who seem far distant from us.
It alarms me sometimes that I am often unaware of whether or not I’m making a positive contribution in a given situation. I am going to try to be more mindful.
