My friend and colleague, Brian Grogan S.J. of the Irish Province, has performed an invaluable service for all English-speaking Inigophiles [have I just invented a new word?] by taking Tellechea Idigoras’ biography of Ignatius, Solo y a Pie, and reworking it into 70 beautifully-illustrated chunklets. [Full disclosure: Loyola Press published a full-length translation of Idigoras' work by Cornelius Buckley in 1994.]
What I especially like about what Brian has done is that he has taken a rather daunting volume and has turned it into a very user-friendly text. On many pages, Brian includes a sidebar with a reflection question to help us appropriate the material for ourselves. Praise should also be heaped upon the head of Vivienne Adu-Boahen who so beautifully designed and laid out the book.
Alone & on Foot is available from its publisher, Veritas in Ireland, but also from Barnes & Noble, Amazon and, certainly, many independent bookstores.
