It is a beautifully sunny morning here in Chicago. I left for work rejoicing in the birdsong, budding branches and the golden glow that was bathing everything in wondrous light. [Readers from more temperate parts will have to forgive those of us who live half of the year on frozen tundra for waxing lyrical in Spring.]
In the car, the radio came on automatically and I found myself listening to an interview about “harsh interrogation techniques” and/or torture and about how many times the U.S. water-boarded prisoners, or put them in stress positions, etc.
I have no desire to be political in this blog, but I do want to express my anger and disappointment at how we as a nation have reacted to 9-11. It seems to me that we lost a lot more than the Twin Towers and the lives that were sacrificed that day.
Not very pleasant thoughts to be confronted with on such a beautiful day.

There are days when I totally get the image of our Mother of Sorrows. When we are so painfully out of tune with God and those around us that we can feel our hearts breaking.
I just saw a news clip about a 9 year quadriplegic little girl whose adoptive mother tried to cover up her death by placing her in a storagebin. The truth of the tragedy is still unfolding but all that has been revealed thus far it is a story full of poverty and desparation.
Some say why weep, put a sunny face on things. But does that cause us to close our eyes to the painful realities of situations around us and thus prevent us from opening ourselves up to be God’s intruments of grace in a dissonant world?
