I left Chicago for South Bend early this morning. About an hour into my journey, I realized that I’d forgotten to post this morning. Mea Culpa. I managed to get a lot done in South Bend where I am trying to help furnish our new Jesuit Residence. I’m lucky that an experienced friend came with me. Boy, am I clueless about this kind of stuff. I’d look at a chest of drawers and think, “Pretty nice,” until she’d whisper in my ear, “It’s made of particle board and won’t last more than a few years.” Ah, well. That’s what friends are for, right?
I’ve sidetracked myself as usual… The point of this post was to tell you that, coming back into town along Lake Shore Drive, the skyline of Chicago opened before me and my heart began to sing. It is one of those pristine days – warm, but not too warm, with low humidity and nary a trace of smog. The skyscrapers looked like polished gems. On days like today, I feel sorry for all of you who don’t have the privilege of living in this fantastic city.
And, no, you don’t get to remind me about this post next February when I am bitterly complaining about how awful it is here.

Paul,
I thought you were going to write about listening to God. However, the skyline of Chicago making your heart sing certainly demonstrates one of the ways to listen to God.
