Prayers, fierce and by name, for Eric and all who are affected by ALS arise. My brother-in-law had ALS, so this is a cause near to my heart in many ways.

Thank you for the post and the clips.
While watching the begining of the Red Sox game this evening with my baseball crazed son (age 7 ) we saw a clip of Curt Shilling reading Lou Gehrig’s famous speach. My husband and I used it to begin to explain to my son why both of these Gentlemen of the sport were so praiseworthy, each in their own ways.
A little later I came across your site and the video clip and had Brian watch it with me. I think it planted a good seed for an ongoing discussion about the difference between a good player and a good sport/gentleman. i explained to Brian that while he was a good baseball player and would have been in the hall of fame what made him a great man remembered and loved as he is was his attitude in the face of difficulty.

Tomorrow Lou Gehrig’s speech will be replayed during the 7th inning stretch at all the Major League Baseball games.

I thank all the participants of People for Others in advance for their prayers for ALS victims and for the researchers who are trying to find the cause and a cure.
