St. Ignatius Rap

by Paul on July 10, 2009

ignatius-rapMonty Python fans know the phrase, “And now for something completely different.”

Rap music is — how shall I say this? –not my favorite art form.  Having said that, I want to share with you a trailer for something called “St. Ignatius Rap” which my friend Ed Peck pointed out to me.  It is on the Fairfield University site. Click on the link below and hit the play arrow.

Paul,

It’s different, that’s for sure! I sent it along to a younger crowd of Ignatianphiles to see what their take is…

Having been taught Gregorian chant in the Jesuit Novitiate back in the stone age, and loved it, I am not a candidate for having this wake up my soul. However, if this will bring Christ to the millions of younger people who listen to this form of entertainment, I say God bless it and will pray that its message will spread.

Not my type of music but I have seen how it has inspired some people. As the saying goes ‘In god’s garden there are many beautiful flowers’

As rap goes this one was good–I could understand the words! We use rap to help children and learn their prayers, especially when memorization has become tedious and not productive. I sent this posting to some of ‘the younger people’ I work with. Thanks for ’something completely different,’ Paul…..its helps me stretch.

Fellow “Rappers,”

Thanks for your comments. I’m impressed that Michele and her folks use rap to teach prayer – whatever works! And, yes, rap might just open Iggy up to a new generation.
