Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam – For the Greater Glory of God

What is it about this 16th century man from the Basque country which fascinates so many of us? I can only answer for myself – he has wisdom and insights into what makes me tick that puts any therapist I’ve known to shame.  But, much more than that, he always points me to a closer and more authentic relationship with Christ.  What’s not to love about that?

 Happy St. Ignatius Day.

If someone is having trouble grasping the full significance of the New Testament, I would recommend that he or she read the Spiritual Exercises, or a modern rendition of the Spirtual Exercises (better of course to pray the Spiritual Exercises) and then go back and read the New Testament. I am certain that the person would then read the New Testament with greater understanding and excitement. I know that some might object to the notion that we might need help grasping the New Testament from another source, but I believe that Ignatius fully grasped the New Testament and provided a means to understand it and live it.
