Last night I found myself looking through old diaries (the embarrassment of it all) and came across the following quote from J.D. Salinger which I transcribed in 1976. It still strikes me today. Zooey, one of the gifted Glass children, is talking about his vocation as a teacher.
There isn’t one girl in there, including the terrible Miss Zabel, who is not as much my sister as Boo Boo or Franny. They may shine with the misinformation of the ages, but they shine.
