Most Grateful

by Paul on September 3, 2009

RiverIt happens rarely enough, but occasionally I am almost overcome with the awareness of how much God loves me and how blessed I am.

God has given me eyes to see, a tongue to taste with, skin to feel with and ears for listening.  Those things alone are stupendous gifts, but they don’t even begin to scratch the surface of the gifts the Lord has given me…

At this moment, I am most grateful for the magnificence of God’s creation.

What are you most grateful for right now?

… a lovely sunny day with low humidity, unemployment and cobra insurance while I’m looking for a new job, today’s Loyola 3-minute retreat, dish of fresh strawberries, smell of fresh air, People for Others, especially this reminder to think about all … for which I am grateful. Thanks Paul.

My wife, daughter, and son-in-law who care for me.
Since my legs don’t work, the rest of me that still does.
My church community that shares Jesus with us.
And most of all God’s faithful love of all of us.

These past few days I’ve been especially grateful for the beautiful weather. It’s usually hot and muggy this time of year, but we’ve enjoyed several cool, sunny, comfortable days. And people are stopping each other on the street to say hello and rave about it! Nice to see smiles!

I most grateful for an average everyday life. I have learned first hand that the days that take you out of the norm are not always good. Altho I do believe in wonderful surprises and miracles, I would gladly keep my life as it is right now forever!
I am grateful in today’s economy that my husband and I have good jobs and healthcare.
And I am especially grateful for a lovely conversation about prayer and the presence of God that I had with my dear friend Therese. She is never shy about sharing and always good at listening.

Right now I’m grateful for my men’s group which has been a real source of life and support. It’s great to bring some of the insanities of my life into a safe place where healing, transformation, and integrity result. I’m inspired by the lives these guys lead. Plus, they are a lot of fun.

I am grateful for the grace to accept my cousin’s death (just 3 hours ago, after battling pancreatic cancer in the last 10 months) with calmness and peace in my heart. I know she is now in a good and happy place `where there is no more suffering and pain’. Thank you, Lord, for welcoming her to Paradise.

At the moment, I am most grateful for the laugh of my 7 month old son which is a welcome melody in what I experience as a chaotic life right now. Such a wonderful sound from such a pure soul. True bliss!

Readergirl and Jackie,

Very simply and, hopefully, humbly — thank you.

Eric,

The way you deal with your ALS is a constant source of — and I use this word advisedly — edification for me.

Regina,

I’m with you — cool rules. I can’t understand all the folks around me who are bemoaning the end of the heat for another year. My poor window air-conditioner needs a long rest…

Marg,

It is truly a gift when we are able to be most grateful for “an average everyday life.” I think it means we’re in touch with God at work in our daily lives. I also endorse your comments about having a job in this economy — we are so fortunate to have meaningful work at a time like this.

Tom,

You talk about your men’s group and what a great group of people they are, which is great, but you also say that they are fun and that is very important. I am very grateful for the fun people in my life — you are one of the funniest people I know and I’m thankful I get to share some laughs with you.

Maura,

How lovely to choose people from your parish, especially the Deacon, for whom to be most grateful. I hope your Deacon knows how much you appreciate him.

Linda Que,

My heart sagged a little when I read your comment about your cousin’s death. Please accept my sincere condolences. I am traveling at the moment and was able to read your comment on my cell phone but haven’t had wifi access until now to respond to you. I will try to send you an email later today.

Kim,

Thank you for reminding me of the sheer joy of listening to a child’s laughter. It is, indeed, something for which we should always give thanks,

Erika,

We all give each other encouragement and we all need lots of it. Let’s try to focus today on lifting others up.

I am so grateful to have found this peaceful blog just this week and to know of wonderful friends like each of you who share your heartfelt feelings and ideas and allow each other to express as needed. God gently shepherds us to where he can lead us beside the still waters and restore our souls.
