The Way It Is

by Paul on October 29, 2009

My friend Joe shared a new poet with me, William Stafford.  Here are a few lines from The Way It Is
 Threads
There’s a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn’t change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.

You can read the rest of this short poem here.

I like this one. I think I may share it with my students this weekend. Last class we were talking about how facts & perceptions can change but the Truth does not. Whether or not the poet intened it there could be an interesting connection here with Jesus as the Way, the Truth and the Life.

For those who like this poem and wish to expand their prayer and thought on its message, I recommend “How Big Is Your God” by Paul Coutinho, S.J.

Eric,

I thought of directly tying this poem into “How big is your God?” but didn’t want to seem to be trying to sell anything. Thanks for making the link for me.

Paul
