I’ve lived so long in these United States that I sometimes – mistakenly, it turns out – believe that I have become thoroughly Americanized. Last week, I needed to set up a meeting for about 10 people here at the Press. I searched through our online calendars for a time when all of us could be free.
Amazingly, on Thursday 26th everyone was available and none of the conference rooms were being used. I pounced and sent out a meeting request for us all to gather at 10:00a.m. It was milliseconds after I pushed the “Send” button that I realized I had called the meeting for Thanksgiving Day.
In a flash, people were at my door, emails were flying in and the phone started ringing. I hastily chose another date and time. I was, and am, chagrined to have forgotten Thanksgiving. I mean, I’d never try to set up a meeting for St. Patrick’s Day, would I?
