I bet that title got your attention! It refers to a learned article by Tim Muldoon (of Boston College who is also a Loyola Press author and a blogger for dotMagis on IgnatianSpirituality.com) It is from the British Jesuit journal, The Way. The following quote is about as “hot” as it gets:
In the context of a sacramental marriage—a sacred, public vow to love the other as Christ loves the Church—sexual intimacy is itself no less than the water of baptism or the bread of the Eucharist: the real symbol of the reality of grace [res tantum] poured out through the mediation of the body [res et sacramentum]
The article [which you can read in its entirety here] might be a bit heady for some of us, but Tim’s new book Longing to Love which Loyola Press will publish in February, deals with many of the same themes in a warm and inviting way. I’ll give you more details as we get closer to the publication date.
