On Tuesday night, in the middle of dinner, our power went out as the storm began in earnest. We got electricity back at about noon yesterday, but we had no heat. Thank God for hot toddies and down comforters! This photo is of my car… before I spent the better part of two hours digging it out. The heating engineer is here right now and I’m hoping to be warmer in an hour or two.
It is only when the essential things like light and heat are taken away from you that you realize how much you depend on them. I have found myself worrying a lot about the homeless, the elderly and the lonely. Of course, I should be thinking about – and acting on behalf of – the vulnerable all of the time. Mea maxima culpa.
