As a Northern Ireland Catholic who experienced uncountable incidences of casual bigotry growing up, I get upset whenever I come across anti-Islamic rhetoric here in the USA. Religious freedom isn’t real unless it applies to every one, from Christian televangelists to the most zealous atheist.
Among the customs practiced on this feast are that, “Old wrongs are forgiven and money is given to the poor. Special foods are prepared and friends or relatives are invited to share the feast. Gifts and greeting cards are exchanged and children receive presents.” Who can’t get on board with that?
I wish our Islamic sisters and brothers a joyous Eid al-Fitr.
