This one will sound a bit silly, but I think it is the best object I’ve ever been given – one of the earliest GPS devices. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I may have the world’s worst sense of direction.
It drives me nuts when people say things to me like, “Turn west on North Street.” (If it isn’t “left” or “right,” I can’t do it.) In Chicago, people tell me, “It’s 2000 South.” And, yes, it has been explained to me a hundred times that State St. and Some Other Street are Zero and that everything counts up from there. But it doesn’t help me one iota. Nor do statements like, “It’s towards the lake…”
I could get lost on a tennis court. It’s that bad. So, as you can imagine, getting a GPS changed my life. Suddenly, I could find places without having a panic attack on the way.
Yes, the GPS lady has laid me astray a couple of times… but I am more obedient and faithful to her than to any human I know!
What’s the most special gift you’ve ever received?
