A friend of mine was having work done to her house and she told me about having to break through Latham Plaster. I had never heard of this special plaster and so asked her about it. Turns out, all these years, she thought “lath and plaster” was “Latham Plaster.”
It was only recently that I realized that the English word “nonchalant” comes from the French (and ultimately Latin) for “not” and “hot.” In other words, cool or “nonchalant.”
So what realizations about things have you come to much later in life than to most people?
