“Be Ignited Or Be Gone”

by Paul on March 7, 2012

I found this video of Mary Oliver’s “What I have learned so far” which was made by Marquette University for their service learning program.

You know me – a sucker for anything and everything Mary Oliver.

Paul, I’m so glad you are “a sucker for anything and everything Mary Oliver” or I may never have been introduced to her. This is such a powerful message and I think I may find it very helpful for RCIA when the topic is stewardship.

Lynda,

I am delighted that you may find this useful for your RCIA group. I am always thrilled when people are willing to join our Church when it is going through such trying times.

That is really great – and I think that Lynda is right about the stewardship topic.

One of the many blessings I have received from PFO is being introduced to the works of Mary Oliver. As I have have said so many times before regarding her musings…wow!

Many thanks

The perfect conclusion to a sermon I’ve spent the morning writing – on “Practicing Paradox.” Thank you, Paul!

This really is one of the best “reflection” responses I have seen from young people. Profound. Thanks for sharing this!

It’s not even 10:00, and I’ve been told three times today that I should act out my faith by helping the poor, sick, and weary. It’s something I honestly don’t do very often but need to start doing now.

“Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith . . . For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.” James 2:18, 26.

“Preach the Gospel at all times and, when necessary, use words.” St. Francis of Assisi

Jim,

If the call is from God, it will give you joy and not anxiety and fear.

Nancy,

It’s always a joy to discover something that speaks to PFO-ers.

I love the way they have put this together- all the different voices. And the way the poem is then repeated with one voice, and all those images of the young people serving, really gets the message across. The final ‘punchline’ then really makes you think. It’s a great presentation.

I agree. And I can claim not 1% of the credit.

Claire,

I deserve no thanks. But I will be sure to tell my friends at Marquette how much you and the others liked it.
