The sixth question in Joe Paprocki’s 7 Keys to Spiritual Wellness is:
Where is your dream vacation spot?
…Whatever your choice, chances are it has something to do with beauty. We are drawn to beauty. When vacation time rolls around, we seek to refresh our bodies, minds, and souls by encountering beauty. We do this because we need beauty… Spiritual wellness requires a steady diet of beauty.
Now that it’s firmly Spring, I find myself thinking immediately of the beauty of God’s creation. But not just natural beauty, but also all the beautiful things that humanity offers. I have friends who, no matter their age or circumstances, who bring beauty into my life. Architecture, secular and sacred, speaks loudly to me [and how lucky I am to live in stunning Chicago!], but so do art and music. God’s beauty is everywhere – in an old man holding his granddaughter’s hand as they prepare to cross the street, in the tender ministrations of a nurse as she bathes a patient, in a woman rushing to a second job to keep her family afloat.
Why can’t I see this all the time?
