My favorite piece of technology right now, however, is Skype. When I went to Japan in 1980, a single company had the monopoly for international phone calls and so, as you might imagine, they were very expensive. As a result, through all my time there we were allowed to make two 5-minutes calls to my family each year. [I did write to them every week.]
Now, with Skype, I sit down every couple of weeks in front of my computer and my sister in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil does the same thing and we chat for as long as we want. And, best of all, we can see each other. It’s fantastic.
