Monday Music Moment – George Harrison

by Paul on September 24, 2012

I fell in love with George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord the first time I heard it.  It’s directed at Hare Krishna and not at Jesus but the sense of longing for the Divine is palpable and I identify with it.

Paul, I feel exactly the same way -and I can’t help but just lose myself in the song when I hear it now. Sometimes it will start playing while I am listening to the radio in the car and I just start singing. And “to sing, is to pray twice!” (Attributed to St. Augustine)

Off to get lost in this… Thank you!

Happy Monday to one and all!

I also feel the deep desire and longing for the Divine when I hear this song. This morning it brings to mind this line in the Suscipe: “within thy wounds hide me” as I think that being hidden in Christ’s wounds would be the closest that I could possibly get to Christ – to be totally within Christ. Paul, thank you; I needed this after a difficult weekend.

Have a good week everyone.

Me too! It doesn’t matter who someone else is addressing it to when I sing it, since it is coming out of my heart at that moment. And it is comforting to remember “it takes so long” cause it reminds me to hang on to him.

A great song, a great musician.

I like what I think of as the “already and not yet” feel of this song — he already has a close enough relatinship to the divine to use intimate language like “My Sweet Lord,” and yet still feels like he has not really seen or known God at all yet. That definitely resonates.

Have a good week, everyone.

Ah, Paul, I remember when I bought this album. December 1970, I believe.
Great song. Hare Krishna… God is God…
You just made my day. A blessed day for you and everyone here :-)
