I recalled Pope Benedict’s XVI homily in
which he said:
“God’s sign is simplicity. God’s sign is the baby. God’s sign is that he makes himself small for us… God made himself small so that we could understand him, welcome him, and love him.”
“Let us ask the Lord to let us look upon him with that same love with which Mary saw him.”
~Pope Benedict XVI, Midnight Mass Christmas Homily, 2006
This is such a beautiful song that helps us be aware of those that are way less fortunate than the majority of us, especially during this Season of joy, wonder glad tidings and camaraderie. As we celebrate this special day of Christ’s birth along with the holiday week that follows, let us all look for ways that we may individually work to help those in need.
Thank you for this challenging, yet hopeful, reflection. Hopeful, because we know the Light is coming and there are people all over the world praying and waiting. Merry Christmas to all and thank you Father Paul for the lovely calendar!
Beautiful. I am a big fan of MCC. Merry Christmas to all at Loyola Press and thank you for the calendar which will hang in my little corner of inspiration. May the love that God generously gave us all those many years ago manifest in the way we live our lives. There will be special prayers for all of the PFO family tonight. And I wanted to share this song:
Thank you. I am grateful this Christmas for the chance to celebrate with all the people I love most. I appreciate the call to remember and pray for all that will not be able to celebrate at all.
May you all experience joy in abundance tomorrow. Merry Christmas, and God Bless us, everyone!
I go to Mass and will continue to participate in the Eucharist, irrespective of the faults and failings of the priest, my fellow church goers or myself. For that is what the Eucharist is all about. It is the collecting together of the weak, the sinful, those suffering, those joy-filled and even the bored and transforming them into God incarnate, who transcends time and space, and yet is present in the community gathered. — Suzanne Dooley

Tim,
As you say, we can never go wrong when our hearts go out to others.
Merry Christmas,
Paul
Beautiful and challenging to each of us as Tim has mentioned.
Lynda,
If anyone is up to the challenge – you are!

Annette,
Apart from “Grow Old With Me,” I don’t really know any other song by MCC, as you call her. I shall have to go exploring on YouTube.
Paul
Ask not for whom the bell tolls………:)
Emma,
A Hemingway reference? Way to go!
