What are you doing for Lent this year? Loyola Press offers some suggestions for ways to observe Lent with the help of online offerings.
- Here on People for Others, each Wednesday Paul will share a video post on a Lenten theme.
- At Days of Deepening Friendship, Vinita Hampton Wright will host her annual online Lenten retreat, with a theme this year of Praying Freedom, drawing from her new book and inspiration from other wise women authors.
- An Ignatian Prayer Adventure is an eight-week online adaptation of the Spiritual Exercises and a wonderful way to go on retreat during Lent and Easter. This year PFO friend Michelle Francl-Donnay and Greg Herrle will be sharing their experiences with the retreat through posts on our sister blog dotMagis.
- Other6 Prays Lent provides daily prompts to help us broaden our thinking about where God can be found.
- +3 Minutes for Lent returns for a second year for our Facebook fans, with reflections based on the 3-Minute Retreat.

As always, great resources. Thank you!
I was worried I did not have enough resources go to
Many thanks for these excellent referrals…
Thank you for providing excellent spiritual food. Blessings to all.
Looking forward to them!
I just ordered Vinita’s book. I am really looking forward to this Lenten season. Thank you for everything!
Claire, let us know what you think of Vinita’s book. Thanks for your support.
Fran, Tim, Lynda, and Annette, we look forward to sharing the Lenten journey with you. You’re welcome for the resources!
I have Vinita’s book – it looks great, can’t wait to get started with it.
My thoughts and prayers will go with you on your trip to El Salvador this Friday, Father Paul. May He keep you safe.
I have been doing some “catching up” here on the PFO site after quite a long absence and believe I now know, in better depth, one of the reasons for that long absence. It is because this website’s creators and members give me so much to think about, it sometimes takes me hours to write a simple post. Partly that is a curse or blessing visited upon many “hobby writers,” who love punching out script.
I am grateful for all the resources pointed out in this post: “Lenten Ideas” and I hope to make use of them.
About my post re Matt Weber, I would, today, rather that I had not used the word “stupid.” Matt is to be congratulated. He is a force of truth and grace and outstanding among his age group.
The “Words of Wisdom” that appeared on yesterday’s PFO wall pertaining to a quote by Ghandi that set me off with words of my own are resonating back to me with member comments (thank you for that Emma and Denise J.) new knowledge and introspection that cannot help but make me a better, wiser person. Thank you for that, and my apologies to you Mahatma.
That is usually what happens, many positives, on my visits to PFO…so good to be back after a crisis in faith. Have a great day folks.
Ron
Ron, thank you for the thoughtfulness in this comment. I agree that this community gives us much to think about, but as one of the behind-the-scenes people, that’s only a good thing!
Thank you Denise.
I did not know you were one of the people working with PFO. You are fortunate and blessed and also to be congratulated. PFO has rescued me from the dumps (and ignorance) many times. I am sure you do the same for others and that is a great form of re-telling “The Good News” brought to us through our Founder and Church.
I also agree with you when you say, “that’s only a good thing!” I believe I can safely assume that you were referring to my comment, “…this website’s creators and members give me so much to think about, it sometimes takes me hours to write a simple post.” Many posts stay with me my entire day, as was the case today. That is a wondrous gift, a very good thing.
Ron,
You are right that these wonderful people behind-the-scenes provide us with a lot of food for thought. The other amazing thing about PFO is the community that has been built here of wonderful caring people who comment. It’s good to have you back. Blessings.
