This version of the Shaker hymn is from Aaron Copeland’s “Appalachian Spring.” I find the melody hauntingly beautiful.

One of my favs. This piece of music makes me think of the church today with the news of Pope Benedict’s resignation. Just as Copeland took an age old melody and explored it in new ways imbuing it with both joy and reverent majesty I hope that the church will look at herself anew , listen to the Holy Spirit and search for ways to embrace new life in Christ.
