St. Valentine’s Day is an official feast in the Lutheran Church and in the Anglican Communion. The feast is also celebrated in the Eastern Orthodox Church… on July 6th.
Who knew? Wikipedia did! It also tells us:
the most popular martyrology associated with Saint Valentine was that he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire; during his imprisonment, he is said to have healed the daughter of his jailer Asterius. Legend states that before his execution he wrote “from your Valentine” as a farewell to her.
Now we know more about Valentine’s Day than 95% of the population.

Thank you for the enlightenment. I should inform everyone that is within range of a Coop in Switzerland that they are giving away free chocolates to celebrate said Saint’s feast day
Thank you Paul and Simon for the public service announcements! I brought chocolates for my class today, wish I could figure out how to post them here for PFO…
All I can add is that chocolates are an improvement on The Observer Book of Flags as a Valentine present, however I was able to respond in semaphore.
Now that is funny
Isn’t it interesting that “from your valentine” was a goodbye when now it is more of an invitation for ‘more’?
