This was the scene outside my office an hour or two ago.
God’s ways are mysterious to behold but so, apparently, are those of the City of Chicago. This morning notices appeared on trees announcing that the street was closed to parking for the next month due to “sidewalk reconstruction.” [Notice, however, all the parked cars because the two signs ordering the closure were the same orange color as other signs which announced street cleaning for the next day!]
Nothing happened until about 11:00am when several huge trucks and a massive excavator arrived and started digging things up outside our building. The corner where I have my office and Customer Service are fielding calls began to shake somewhat violently and the noise was, well, just like someone was using a jackhammer right outside my room.
I have, however, titled this post “Good Humor” because I have been amazed at the tolerant and benign response to this disruption from my colleagues. I wonder how long that will last?
As for me, I believe the term is “going postal.”
