There once was a miser who hid gold at the foot of a tree. Every week he would dig it up and gloat over it. A robber, noticing this, dug up the gold and took it. Then, when the miser went to find it, it was gone. He cried out and asked all the neighbors if they had taken it.
“Did you ever take any out?” asked a neighbor
“Nay, I only looked at it.” replied the distraught miser
“Well why don’t you just stare at the hole instead; it will do you just as much good.”
